Located in the heart of Dumfries, Vajrasattva Kadampa Meditation Centre is a peaceful oasis that has been lovingly renovated over the last four years. The centre includes a number of residential rooms for those wishing to live in a Buddhist community. There is a purpose built meditation space, a cafe, bookshop & lounge area and an outdoor seating area. The centre is located just off the high street and is also only a few minutes away from the river where you can take peaceful walks along the riverbank.
Over thirty years ago the Founder of the New Kadampa Tradition, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, engaged in a special three year retreat at Tharpaland Retreat Centre in the forest of Ae near Dumfries. From the retreat centre it was possible to see the lights of Dumfries in the valley below. It is through Geshe-la’s great kindness that a centre is now appearing for the people of Dumfries and Galloway so that everyone has the opportunity to benefit from modern Kadampa Buddhism.
Geshe-la named the centre Vajrasattva Kadampa Meditation Centre after the Buddha of Purification. The essence of Dharma practice is to train, control and purify our mind. In the book Modern Buddhism it says, “The path to Enlightenment is very simple, all we need to do is purify our mind.”
Everyone needs special methods to solve their inner problems and find true inner peace, purity and happiness. The meditation practices we teach are practical, easy to integrate into modern life and can bring a deeper sense of meaning and purpose to life.
Everyone is welcome and the classes and courses are offered on many levels, and are accessible for those new to meditation. The centre is run by volunteers and is a registered charity. Come along to find out more!
